You Are Supported

"Expect help. A Divine power more magnificent than anything else that exists on the planet is ready to support our every move."
- Cheryl Richardson

On days where it's cloudy and gloomy and nothing seems to be going right, I sometimes remember that the sun is always shining. All I see with my eyes may be clouds and darkness, but if I were to get in an airplane and break through the clouds, I would see reality: the sun does not cease to shine.

Sometimes, we have to remind ourselves that the darkness we're experiencing is temporary. The Light is always present. If we're going through a difficult time, we increase the amount of suffering we experience by thinking our life will always be like this. We don't have to suffer as much as we do. Many of us choose to suffer through the negative way we think about our life.

Basically, if we're feeling miserable, anxious, or depressed with our life, we must pay attention to our thoughts. Chances are we are thinking something like "Things will never get better." Anytime we use the words "always" or "never" we're engaging in All or Nothing type thinking. This type of thinking is distorted and will cause us to feel hopeless. I have a strong tendency towards this type of thinking so trust me when I tell you, this type of thinking can mess you up big time.

So the next time you’re feeling down, exercise your mental muscles by reminding yourself, "This too shall pass." Just as the weather changes so too does our life. Life is full of peaks and valleys. We're insane if we think things should be the way we want them to be all the time. If we hang on to that type of thinking, we will continue to feel frustrated. Life will not be the way we want it to be a lot of the time, BUT life will bring us what we need. For example, if we encounter a situation where we're embarrassed, that means we needed to have that experience in order to teach us something. Until we learn the lesson the person or experience is meant to teach us, we are destined to repeat it. When we do learn the lesson,  we will move on to our next one.

Finally, like the quote above, remind yourself the universe is a friendly one. It is not conspiring against you. In fact, there is a power greater than you that is working for you. One of my favourite quotes which really calms me down is from the Bible: "If God is for us, who can be against us." (Romans 8:31) Sometimes I read it and change the word "us" to "me." Try it.

So take comfort and hope in the knowledge that you are supported, your situation is temporary and the Light is always shining even if you can’t see it.
