Do You Ever Feel Like Giving Up?

When the world says, "Give up,"
Hope whispers, "Try it one more time."

Today’s theme is Perseverance. It’s not a word many of us like. In North America, we are so accustomed to instant gratification. If our life doesn’t proceed on our time table, many of us become frustrated, impatient and even angry. I know this because I’m exactly like this. I can be patient for awhile, and then I can lose it and become so irritated if my hopes and dreams aren’t happening when I think they should. Because of course, I’m so smart and I know everything and I should run the world (note: extreme sarcasm was just used!!!).
An Olympic athlete who trains tirelessly for years and sacrifices all sorts of things would tell us that we don’t just train for a short time and then give up. To reach our goal, we must continuously work at it without giving up. Throughout life, we will be tempted many times to give up. Everything we see before us will tell us “it’s no use...it will never happen...stop dreaming, stop hoping.”
The reward will only come to those who persevere. Check out these awesome quotes on perseverance. If you like them, put them on your bathroom mirror or by your computer...somewhere where you can see them all the time. Memorize them. Draw strength from prayer, meditation, an inspirational book or good friends. Do what you have to do to remind yourself not to give up.
YOU are the only who has to fan the flame and keep it going. Don’t expect life to do that for you. A flame left unattended will burn out.  A car without gas will stop running.  A dream without perseverance will never materialize.
Remember, you are strong, you are determined, you will keep moving forward and it will happen.
If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.  ~Flavia Weedn, Flavia and the Dream Maker, © Flavia.com

Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.  ~Walter Elliott, The Spiritual Life
People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are.  I don't believe in circumstances.  The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.  ~G.B. Shaw, Mrs. Warren's Profession, 1893
There is no telling how many miles you will have to run while chasing a dream.  ~Author Unknown

The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running.  ~Author unknown, in reference to Ecclesiastes 9:11, "I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."
