One Thing That Will Change Your Life

Upon reading Dr Norman Vincent Peale’s book the other day, The Power of Positive Thinking, I came across this passage which I quite enjoy and wanted to share with you!

“For the next twenty-four hours, deliberately speak hopefully about everything, about your job, about your health, about your future. Go out of your way to talk optimistically about everything. This will be difficult, for possibly it is your habit to talk pessimistically. From this negative habit you must restrain yourself even if it requires an act of will.”

I liked this so much, I wrote it out on a piece of paper which I read first thing in the morning and keep with me in my purse so I can carry it with me wherever I go and look at throughout the day. I’m someone who has to create constant reminders to stay positive otherwise I will lapse into negative thinking.

Dr Peale goes on to challenge the reader to continue this habit of speaking hopefully for one week. He then says you can allow yourself to be “realistic” for a day or so. Then he states something which really struck me as so interesting: “When most people say they are being ‘realistic’ they delude themselves: they are simply being negative.”

Most people pride themselves on being realistic.  Our world teaches us to be realistic. But, being realistic blocks miracles. It stops the flow of creativity, insights, and enlightenment. I think a lot of us tend to be realistic so we avoid being disappointed if things don’t turn out the way we want them to.

Since I’ve been paying more attention to my thoughts this past year and focusing more on being positive, many “miraculous” opportunities have occurred.  Sometimes the miracle has been a change in my thinking. For example, a situation that used to irritate and annoy me, no longer does.  Other times, the miracle appears in the form of an idea or a thought that comes to me exactly when I need it.

Miracles can happen all the time in your life too. Remember, we have the power to create our future with our thoughts at this very moment. If we think something good won’t happen to us, then it won’t.  We need to eliminate the barriers in our minds and allow room for the miracles.

Let’s all try this one thing Dr Peale suggests. Let’s go out and speak positively and hopefully about ALL things. Today and the rest of your week, let your thoughts magnetize miracles.
