I bought the classic bestseller, The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, a few months ago. I knew it was good because so many other of my favourite writers refer to it, but for some reason I never picked it up until the other day. One of the things I like to do is read a book randomly instead of starting from the beginning. Now this is likely not how most authors intend for their books to be read but sometimes this method really works for me.
I was in a bit of downer mood, and I opened the book to the chapter entitled "Expect the Best and Get It" which has to do with the "magic of believing." It came as no surprise that the words I read were the perfect words of encouragement I needed to hear at that moment. Maybe they'll help you out as well.
Psychologist William James talked about the importance of believing and said, "our belief at the beginning of a doubtful undertaking is the one thing that insures the successful outcome of your venture."
There are times where we may feel powerless to change our situation. The truth is, we are all given the ability to think and to believe in our greatness and in our dreams. Belief is a tool that we all have available to use at any time.
How often during the day do you believe things will get better? How often do you take time to dream, to plan, to take a step forward to what you want to become?
Don't succumb to thoughts of, "that would never happen to me." Banish those poisonous thoughts from your mind! Instead, excel at being you. Excel at believing in your dreams. Take one small step at a time and before you know it, you will start to see the rewards of your efforts. You simply must expect the best no matter how dismal the circumstances may seem.
Just for today, give it a try. Live by believing rather than seeing. Expect the best and watch the best find you.
